PLANT-BASED NUTRITION ON THE STAGE
Last week, Plant Powered Metro New York had the honor of hosting Dr. Michael Greger’s How Not to Age presentation at Gracie Mansion, the mayor’s historic residence. Nearly 100 local leaders from healthcare, aging services, city agencies, and many other sectors attended, learning the wide-ranging ways that eating plants promotes healthy aging and longevity. Lianna Levine Reisner, PPMNY Network Director, had the honor of introducing the mayor, who put type 2 diabetes into remission with a whole food, plant-based lifestyle. Mayor Adams cited Dr. Greger as a key influence in his transition to plant-based eating. Special thanks to everbeat, Rendr Doctors, and Jonathan Leibowitz, MD, for making this event possible!
And it’s been a great month for plant-powered healthcare with the opening of two more Plant-Based Lifestyle Medicine programs at NYC Health + Hospitals locations in Brooklyn: Kings County and Woodhull. These clinics offer patients with advanced chronic disease the opportunity to receive counseling and support in diet and lifestyle that can halt or reverse the disease process. The director of the new program at Kings County, Melissa Lee, MD, is a Plant Powered jumpstart graduate, too!
We’re getting into the holiday spirit with the return of our Holiday Dessert Potluck on December 10th! Join us in East Harlem for a festive and fun dessert competition between fellow community members. Bring a favorite plant-based dessert, savor the sweet seasonal recipes of other attendees — and compete for the best dish. There will be prizes for competition winners!
Wow! Plantathon 2023 was a whirlwind of fun, learning, and community. We are so grateful to everyone who made this celebration of health possible — our featured guests, generous sponsors, talented production team, and all who donated to our campaign.
Check out all the Plantathon replays from our virtual showcase and in-person event with Chuck Carroll on our website.
Then, need some festive food ideas for the holidays? Chef Carole Levy was back on Sunday cooking up a plant-based spinach manicotti and a cranberry carrot cake with chocolate ganache. Yum! Watch the replay and get her recipes.
If you’re looking for extra guidance and motivation to reach your health goals in 2024, look no further! In mid-January, our21-Day Plant Powered Jumpstart returns to support you on your journey to whole food, plant-based nutrition.
This virtual health empowerment program offers insightful nutrition education and cooking demos, plus peer support and cheerleading to get comfortable with plant-based nutrition in your home.
