Description
“Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and the most inhuman because it often results in physical death” — Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Lacking reliable access to affordable, nutritious food is a long-running problem in America’s big cities, including the New York metro area. In fact, according to 2020 data, 8.2% of Mercer County residents are food insecure. Across the state of New Jersey, this is felt disproportionately among people of color: 17% of Blacks and Hispanics in New Jersey are food insecure.
But it doesn’t have to be this way.
This MLK Day, PPMNY is uniting communities to stand up for a more inclusive food future. Join us for a purposeful restaurant crawl spanning multiple neighborhoods — a progressive plant-powered meal that pays tribute to Dr. King’s enduring legacy of justice.
For our 2nd annual Health Freedom Walk, we’ll begin with a visit to The Arts Council of Princeton with an artist talk by Ronah Harris
Then, participants will take part in a short walking tour of Princeton Black history before visiting these Princeton eateries where chefs have curated delicious plant-powered dishes:
-
Small World Coffee: Hot Chocolate or Tough Chai
-
Mahmoun's Falafel: Falafel Salad or Sandwich, Combo Platter
The full event will last approximately 2.5 hours, and guests will pay $10 or less for one dish at each location.
Please arrive at The Arts Council of Princeton at Witherspoon Street and Paul Robeson Blvd by 4:15 PM.
Only 10 spots available! To hold your spot, register for just $5.
